The thought screen helmet blocks telepathic communication between aliens and humans. Aliens cannot immobilize people wearing thought screens nor can they control their minds or communicate with them.
Results of the thought screen helmet exceeded expectations. Since January 2000 aliens have not taken any abductees while they were wearing thought screen helmets using Velostat shielding. See Case Histories and Testimonials.
The thought screen helmet was invented by Michael Menkin in 1998 and named after the thought screens that were described by science fiction writer Edward Elmer Smith Ph.D. in the Gray Lensman novels.
Other shielding material was tried in previous models with less success. Do not substitute the Velostat shielding with other materials. The Velostat made by 3M works!
You can make a thought screen helmet for $35.
---====---
Materials Needed:
Cloth or plastic tape, 2" wide. Have plenty on hand, you will use lots of tape to make this thought screen.
Hat or helmet that covers the whole head; made of vinyl, rubber or leather or another smooth material that tape will stick to. See example photograph. Sources for the leather hat used in these instructions are provided under Where to Obtain Materials.
If you can't find a hat that tape will adhere to, try a ski hat, large bonnet, 1920's style flapper hat or even a very large swim hat. Any large hat that 8 sheets of Velostat can be fitted into will work.
3M Velostat, Part number 1706, .006" 6 mils thick (.006") 2 square yards or 3M Velostat, Part number 1704, 4 mils thick (.004" ) 3 square yards.
Large sheet of paper about 18" by 18" for making pattern, newspaper will work.
---====---
Step A:
- Hold the hat open and push the paper into the hat. Push the paper against the inside and top of the hat. A newspaper will do.
- Take the hat with the paper in it and put it over your head. The paper should be just above your ears and flush with the front and the back of the helmet. Pull the hat and the paper down over your head. Make sure the paper and the hat are secure against your head.
- Remove the hat and the paper, taking care to keep the paper with the hat.
- Use a marking pen or grease pencil and draw a line on the paper where it meets the hat.
- Remove the paper from the hat and cut along the line you just made.
---====---
Step B:
- Measure the width of the pattern.
- Cut 8 sheets of thinstructions are provided under Where to Obtain Materials.
---====---
Step C:
- Cut small strips of tape about 1/2" wide and as long as the tape width, which should be 11/2" to 2" long, and stick them to the back of a dinner plate or other smooth surface for use.
- You will fill four or five platefuls of tape strips during the construction of the thought screen.
---====---
Step D:
- The back of the pattern is flatter than the front. Measure the back with a ruler and determine the center of the Velostat sheet.
- Place two strips of tape on the back side of the Velostat, one strip 1/2" to the left of the center and one strip 1/2" to the right of the center. Place about half of the strip on the Velostat.
- Place the other half of each strip to the back of the hat.
- Push the Velostat into the hat with your hand. Make sure the Velostat touches the inside top of the hat.
- With the Velostat inside the hae 6 mil, 36" Velostat, part number 1706, to the width of the pattern.
- Place the pattern over each sheet of Velostat and draw a line on the Velostat sheets around the edge of the pattern. A highlighter marking pen is light enough to show up on the Velostat.
- Cut out each pattern shape on the Velostat sheets.
- You are now ready to tape each Velostat sheet into the hat.
---====---
Step E:
- Always start the insertion of the Velostat into the hat using tape on the back of the hat first. This will hold the Velostat secure as you pull it andt, pull the hat and the Velostat over your head.
- It may take several trys to do this successfully.
- It works best if you put the hat and Velostat on the back of your head and pull it forward over your head.
- Once the Velostat is as flush to the hat as possible, pull the hat and the Velostat off your head.
- Trim the excess Velostat about 1/4" from the sides of the hat.
- Pull the hat and the Velostat over your head again to check how it fits. When you remove the hat and Velostat, hold the Velostat to the hat with your hand so it doesn't slip out of the hat.
- If you are sure that the Velostat is as close to the hat as possible, trim it up to the edge of the hat with a scissors. If you are not sure that you got the Velostat flush to the hat, remove the hat, push the Velostat back into the hat and put the hat over your head again for another try.
- Secure the Velostat sheet to the hat with 4 or 5 strips of tape on the front and 3 or 4 additional strips on the back of the hat.
- You can place one or two strips of tape on the sides of the hat to hold the Velostat, but final taping of the sides is done last.
---====---
Steps F-G:
- Tape the Velostat sheets securely to the hat with strips of tape all the way around.
- Tape the sides of the hat last by holding the hat taut with one hand and applying tape strips with the other hand.
---====---
Steps H-I-J:
- Apply horizontal sheets of tape over the vertical strips for a final covering.
- Apply a layer of tape over the strips from the inside first, then a layer over the outside strips of tape second.
- Apply tape to any areas that need reinforcement. Remember, you will sleep with the hat on.
- YOUR THOUGHT SCREE the had over your head.
- Place the strips of tape at the back of the hat at different widths from the center, so the tape does not pile up onto each other.
- It is critical to get the Velostat as flush to the inside of the hat as possible, because each layer builds up. Extra space may prevent the insertion of the 8 sheets required for an effective thought screen.
- As additional sheets of Velostat are added to the hat, the dimensions of the Velostat become less, so you trim off more of each inserted sheet.
- Don't trim the Velostat to the edge the first time, Always try the hat and Velostat over your head at least twice before making the final trim and application of tape.
- YOUR THOUGHT SCREEN IS COMPLETE. YOU NOW HAVE THE FIRST WORKING THOUGHT SCREEN IN THE WORLD!
---====---
But don't take our word for it!

The aliens from Signs were still able to abduct me but I adapted my Micheal Menkin Helmet by adding a water bottle holder. I don't expect to see those punkass aliens again, at least for the next six months while their third degree burns heal.
