She grinned, as he walked towards her. She got up and stepped forward to meet him.

*WE MEET AT THE LIGHTS, I STARE FOR AWHILE

The tortoise lamp on the table where Buffy had been sitting, cast strange shadows across Angel?s face, changing the dimensions. She held his gaze and lost herself in his deep eyes.

*THE WORLD AROUND US DISAPPEARS

The people dancing and chattering became no more than a blur in the background. Angel looked at Buffy, his eyes never wavering. He held her hands.

*ITS JUST YOU AND ME ON MY ISLAND OF HOPE

Buffy felt her breath caught in her throat,

*A BREATH BETWEEN US COULD BE MY LAST

being choked back by impending tears. She leaned forward and put her face in his chest and cried softly. They were so right for one another. If only?? Angel held her tightly.

*LET ME SURROUND YOU, A SEA TO YOUR SHORE

"Shh?" Angel whispered softly into her ear.

*LET ME BE THE CALM YOU SEEK.

He wanted to tell her it would be all right. That he would never turn evil again. That he would never hurt her again. That he loved her?but he couldn?t.

*AND EVERY TIME I?M CLOSE TO YOU THERE?S TOO MUCH I CAN?T SAY

How could he guarantee it? How could he apologize for everything he had done. Giles would never forgive him. Willow was still afraid of the dark and Xander?s icy stare made Angel colder than he already was.

Angel let Buffy go and gently pushed her away, as she brushed the tears out of her eyes. He stared longingly for a moment, and walked away.

*AND YOU JUST WALK AWAY

"I love you," Buffy softly called.

*AND I FORGOT TO TELL YOU I LOVE YOU

Angel paused, then continued walking.

"I should have said something," thought Angel as he went through the doors.

*AND ITS TOO LONG AND COLD HERE WITHOUT YOU

Buffy wrapped her arms around herself. She felt so cold and alone, even in a room packed with friendly faces.

*I GRIEVE IN MY CONDITION FOR I CANNOT FIND THE WORDS TO SAY "I NEED YOU SO"

Angel walked down back alleys and side streets, not bothering to dodge puddles. He reached his apartmen her tightly.
