Writeup:
nLv over GOM
It's been a while since we've had a chance to play our old buds at GOM, so this was a treat. Even moreso because finally an O oriented map is in the rotation and we get to have some real fun :)
I hear that GOM's fresh out of Bronze, and it looks to me like they belong here in Silver, cuz they put up quite a fight.
Round 1
-------
After a pretty successful and complaint-free rd2 on our server in TFL last Thursday, we decided to give it another try. Again, it seemed to be the lesser of two evils... but not by much :) We start with the typical strat, running 4 lights on O and who cares what the D was doing. Our scout rush yielded a touch, but no real movement. Much to our chagrin, GOM made the first few pulls, giving us quite a bit to think about, and a whole lot of profanity to direct towards our Defense. A few minutes into rd1, out came GOM's yard HW, and shortly thereafter, out came ours :) The stationary GOM D gave us an opening to run a spamming O engy and a teleporter, which created much boom boom. My 25 minutes of EMP'ing came out with 59 EMP kills (give or take a few) and a cap. Clearly the heart of the nLv O was Nomad, who stole all of our caps and made us all feel inadequate. Luckily, through the EMPs and the combined efforts of nomad, bewb and das, we pulled ahead of GOM about half!
way into the round. The caps kept coming while the nLv D finally figured out how to play their spots and tightened up. nLv pulled out the last one to give us a nice cushion going into rd2, where we were sure things would play a bit differently.
Rd1 Offense: me, dasyati, nomad, bewb
Rd1 Defense: ken, sponge, don, daemon, shade
Rd1 Score: 130-90 nLv!
Round 2
-------
In IRC before Rd2, we forced ourselves to remember to way back in the day when we last played GOM. Horror stories about their server started filtering their way into our chat, and soon enough we headed in to see if the stories were true! Turns out my ping just sucks in general, so I really didn't notice any difference, though several of us were pushing the 100's somewhere. No biggie though. Wasn't as bad as we remembered :) Rd2 sure enough GOM started running the O engy as well, and just like Rd1, they pulled ahead to a 3 cap lead within the first few minutes, leaving them only 1 cap short of a tie. This time the O engy was met with lots of followers - mainly Sols and HWs who liked to follow me quietly until I built my tele, then kill me :( The novelty of the O engy wore off quickly, and soon we were back to 3 meds and occasionally a sol. It wasn't too long after through the EMPs and the combined efforts of nomad, bewb and das, we pulled ahead of GOM about halfway !

out of eachother's FR, or going cap for cap. Once again Nomad steals all of the O's caps to make himself look cool, but no measure of coolness could rid us of the fact that GOM pulled ahead towards the end by a cap! Also, apparently at some point in rd2, bewb and sponge switched positions. To this day I still have no idea why (actually, I'm writing this the same day.. but you get the idea). In any case, rd2 offered a lot less spam in the GOM base, and proved to be a nailbiter of a round. Rd2 ends with GOM up a cap.
Rd2 Offense: me, nomad, dasyati, sponge
Rd2 Defense: bewb, ken, shade, daemon
Rd2 Score: 60-70 GOM!
Final Score: 190-160 nLv wins!
Very nice to play you GOMers again. As always a clean and fun match, and it's just LOVELY to have you folks in Silver w/ us :) Vgg and nice comeback rd2!
