Writeup:
nLv over SIN
Despite what my companions tell me about having played Pipezone many times in the past, I could not remember a single speck of the layout before tonight started. I was among several nLv'ers asking to NOT play due to lack of knowledge of the map... apparently we knew it better than we thought. Either that, or sponge carried us. I dunno.
TO THE WRITEUP, ROBIN!
Round 1
--------
We head into nLv's domain, where for some reason, we start off on Red. Whore carries the lead on PM TK's into the start of the round. Heartbroken, the rest of us continue to play. After spending the first few minutes getting used to the map, we finally settle in. Our flag runners are moving smoothely, getting most of the CPs they head out for, while our D is holding them quite well and comming like no other.
A pretty quick all-cap gives us some cushion to work with as we settle down. SIN does what they can to adapt, and pull a few close ones of their own, but fail to rebute our continued string of all-caps. Eventually running 2 SG's on their home CP, they are still unable to hold off our runners, who continue to keep them under pressure.
Seeing as most of my game was spent burrowing through tunnels and avoiding any contact whatsoever, I cannot comment much on the slaughterhouse going on above me, but had it not been for nLv's occasional all-cap, SIN would have kept this round pretty close, and did a good job of keeping the pressure on us for most of the round; occasionally getting our home SG down, and all but our home CP capped.
Alas, our all-caps prevailed and put us ahead with a nice lead.
Rd1 Offense: me, shade, funk
Rd1 Defense: wl, sid, sponge, sin, sub, whore
Rd1 Score: 291-152 nLv!
Round 2
--------
A rather lengthy break finds us finally in SIN's server, where things are going fine and dandy until we're ready to restart, and pings skyrocket. We head back to nLv's, where, much to our chagrin, SIN starts the round with some unforseen momentum, keeping a pretty dominant hold on the map for the first stretch.
Eventually we figure out that the bases are reversed and begin to adapt and fix things a bit better. This round SIN seems to focus a bit more on stopping our tunneling scouts, and at first it does a pretty damn good job of it. SIN takes an early lead but is soon offset when our D catches on and starts escorting our runners.
After this, the routine from Round 1 resumed, for the most part. Although the scores don't indicate it, SIN was putting up a more organized fight this time around, from the looks of it, and something simply must not have gone their way, because clearly they had some fight left in them.
Round 2, we get another string of all-caps - one of which, even I end up with QD and try to get some cheap crowbar kills. I get conced into SIN's spawn, where I'm SURE I'll be able to get something... alas, two scouts, a soldier and an HW manage to avoid me (and eventually kill me) without me being able to land a single blow. :[
Rd2 Offense: me, shade, funk
Rd2 Defense: wl, sid, sponge, sin, sub, whore
Rd2 Score: 291-169 nLv!
Final
------
Though some might choose to argue, the score before the map changed at the end was actually 291-169, not 290-168 :] Somehow nLv managed to pick up the exact same score both rounds on such a strangely inconsistently scoring map. GJ... i guess?
A very clean game - although, in DM maps like this, it's hard to differentiate clean from dirty. SIN played hard the entire time and hopefully we all had a good time. One of the few flame-free matches we've had lately, so thank you SIN :D
Final Score: 582-321 nLv!
GG SIN, we'll see you guys next time
