nLv over -nZ

Tonight was eventful for several reasons. 2 wins is a fluke, but 3 constitutes a streak, which... until next week, means that nLv is officially out of its slump :]

Other than that, ken made a triumphant debut/return for us in rd1 after having not played TFC since November of 2004 because he got hooked to WoW like the fgt he is. That was a fluke, and even with ken, we only managed 8 players for rd1.

Lastly, tonight nLv was haunted by the spirit of Bloody Mary thanks to metallix.

Round 1
-------
nZ's above-par server treats all of us very well. Things get started off pretty smoothely despite us only having 8 players. We go live and nZ makes the first move, pulling out a very quick one within the first minute or two. Sid decides to play Engy instead of Demo like we asked him to, so I blame that first one entirely on him.

It's not until some time later that nLv answers back and then gets a quick relay. nZ fires back and grabs another one when Sid makes a few O runs to make up for our 3 man O consisting of ken, me and metallix. nZ picked up a cap, but thanks to Sid's EMP spamming O engy, so did nLv. The scores were tied at 2-2 until by some miracle of nature nLv picked up another. I don't remember the details, but I'm sure I did something absolutely amazing.

Sponge is doing some damage in the yard the whole time, going unopposed by the nZ D for the most part. I expected to see them run a sniper or their own yard HW to take care of sponge but that never happened. nZ's HW played in the upper RR and when he wasn't being spammed with 200 grenades, he was doing a nice job of sealing that area off.

nLv pounds away at the fake flag for the most part, but nZ doesn't go quietly. They've got some pretty solid Soldier D playing those halls, but their main weakness is that they can't keep their SG up for very long and nLv makes kitty litter out of their Demo in the FR if we ever make it that far.

There's a little OvO towards the end which doesn't go unanswered on our side. With a minute left nZ pulls a flag to the yard. Already having been OvO'd, we declare it open season on the nZ offense in order to prevent that last cap. They come pretty close to getting a conc off and getting it to their batts, but alas, the round ends with it in the trench. Good, clean, fun round.

Rd1 Offense: me, metallix, ken
Rd1 Defense: sid, sin, sponge, sub, whore
Rd1 Score: 3-2 nLv!

Round 2
-------
What a confusing start to this round... my IRC shits out on me a few minutes before we get going so I just get HLTV and head into our server.

One restart later, we're seconds from going live, and one of nZ's drops. I decide to give them a courtesy restart for a fun rd1. Much to my chagrin, their 9th is in there within seconds of restarting. We wait out another 5 minutes. A 10th shows for nZ, making the restart all the more pointless :] Their 10th drops and we finally get things going.

This time nLv fields a full 9 thanks to funk and fury. My right arrow key decides to take a crap on me and I pay the price for running HLTV and RF while dealing with incessant MM2 spam courtesy of Metallix and Fury. Nonetheless, I'm content with having my 4 primary grenades and my super shotgun, and we make sure nZ knows it!

This round our D tightens up, learning from its mistakes in rd1 (e.g. not letting Sid make stupid O runs cuz he sucks so horriblylylyl). Our offense is feeling a lot better without ken holding us back, and with funk and fury to help move things along. We hammer away at all fronts this round. It seems nZ puts a Sol under their elevator to keep us from using it - it ends up hurting them more than us in the long run, and eventually he switches back to his spot in the halls.

nZ makes a strategically smarter move by moving their SG closer to the FR, but nLv isn't about to let that hold us back. It doesn't stay up for long. nZ's hall soldiers (particularly at the FF) is doing a much nicer job rd2 of holding me back [though I can't speak for the rest of the O] than he was doing rd1. But once again, my spam knows no bounds! nLv keeps making pulls and moving the flag along. nZ puts up some intense fights and some nice, albeit spammy, holds on their flag in their lower RR and gets a few returns on us.

We get a few coast to coasts and solidify our win about halfway through rd2. The nZ offense quickly becomes the nZ defense and soon our O's running into all kinds of D. Yet we still manage to poke some holes and I pull one out the attic for only coast to coast of the evening.

nZ's D doesn't seem to cope with Fury's... fury... and the score shows that whatever we changed up seems to have worked.

Rd2 Offense: me, metallix, fury, funk
Rd2 Defense: sponge, sid, whore, sin, sub
Rd2 Score: 6-1 nLv

Final
-----
Over all a great fun game. That makes two weeks of trench in a row that I've had a blast. That's a rare thing.

nZ puts up a hefty fight rd1, making me weary going into rd2. nLv stays confident with the hopes that with our full, core 9, we'll be able to hold nZ off. Something doesn't click on the nZ side of the yard in rd2 and it ends up costing them.

Final Score: 9-3 nLv!

Very clean and fun game, GG nZ!
