Writeup:

nLv over ADSL

I'm missing out on some valuable drinking and UA basketball time to write this up... but my god... scrummage is SO worth it.

After a week hiatus from TFC due to spring break and lack of manpower (and being forced to miss a week of this awesome map), nLv found ourselves just BARELY able to come up with 8 players for rd1. 3 or 4 of whom had never played scrummage and didn't really know how it goes.

So we spent a whole 5 minutes telling people what to do, and then ADSL is prompt as hell and they start joining. So we figure oh well, scrummage is scrummage... let's have fun with who we've got!

Round 1
-------
We find ourselves in our terrible, laggy server. Hopefully everyone had a few good laughs at how convenient some of those spikes were -_- Scrummage is hard to do writeups for because... it's scrummage.

Anyways. We start off strong on the offensive. It's 8v9 and we take a pretty nice lead on ADSL. As we get ourselves and our newer players settled and familiar with how we play scrummage, it seems like we start to develop an even stronger hold of our lead. We have a few good sprees where we hold their far point for a while and come close to scrumming. But... those pads other 3 pads are a bit more important than the scrumm, so we didn't. Fury tried a few times, but finally we decided that with only 8 it was more important to hold what we had.

Suddenly, ADSL gets a second wind and picks up a quick center cap, followed by capping our close point. We battle it out with them on our close point for a while and it seems like we might have been making some progress when BAM... SCRUMMAGE!

Our hefty lead is cut drastically short, and ADSL is about to make things even worse for us. After the respawn, they come out and grab center again. We do everything we can and just barely hold them off from getting another scrumm, but they were still holding on to our close point, closing the gap on us, and eventually taking the lead too.

The round starts to draw near an end and we're shaking in our e-Boots thinking that we're on the verge of being scrummed on again. Miraculously we hold them off and push back to their near point. It teeter-totters like that until the end of the round. AC's blazing, rockets flying, medics pretending that conc jumping is actually within their grasp on the nLv server. It's a total war zone and we're having the time of our lives.

Dasyati shows up with about 3 or 4 minutes left in rd2... just enough time to watch ADSL take the lead on us. But at least we have 9 for rd2...

The round ends, and it was a doozy. Since it's scrummage, I won't really bother with who played what.

Rd1 Lineup: sponge, me, sid, sin, ber, sub, das, fury, shade
Rd1 Score: 119-128 ADSL!

Round 2
-------
We get to IRC and start discussing what went wrong towards the end. We don't have much time as we got off to a late start and needed rd2 to get started quickly. As it turns out, sin never realized that once we captured center CP, we had a teleporter to get back there! Among other things, he also didn't realize that capping the home point caused a scrummage :D So we get that tiny little issue settled.

Another change we make is to have Fury focus more on the pads instead of the scrumm. With 9 players for rd2, we decide that he might get more chances at scrumming anyways... so... all our bases covered, we head off to ADSL's much nicer server, and equally nice HLTV name!

I don't remember exactly who started out strong in rd2. I think ADSL grabbed the first center, but we got it right back. This round, nLv decided to show these ADSL boys how scrummage is done. They seemed to maybe attempt to adapt our award-winning strat to theirs, but it didn't seem to work as well.

With our extra man, we hold their far CP for a huge portion of the round. Only once or twice to they push us back to our home, and never for too long.

Not too long into rd2, das, me, sid, and sub are ripping apart ADSL's home point, relaying and relaying and relaying on them. And out of nowhere comes fury with the scrumm. And then a short few moments after... ANOTHER!

We are a scrumming machine in rd2. Everything is clicking just like it did in the old days, and we're having a blast. ADSL makes one big mistake in rd2 by apparently dedicating a HW to their battlements area to stop us from relaying their near CP every time. That leaves the center incredibly weak and open to our onslaught.

We dominate in rd2 and once we see a sniper we decide that the match is ours. We send Fury sniper to show them what's what, as at athis point it's already about 180-60 or so in our favor.

Our scrumms stop, but we still hold their point and just don't wnat to give it up without a fight.

Everyone is still playing tough, but it still manages to seem like people had realized that it was over and were goofing off a bit. Anyways... towards the end, goofing off or not, ADSL pulled off their one and only scrumm of rd2, but it just wasn't nearly enough to bring them back into it.

We click like sons of bitches in rd2, and show our new guys how nLv does scrummage!

Rd2 Lineup: (refer to rd1)
Rd2 Score: 211-96 nLv!

Final
-----
Well... first off: win or lose, you've gotta love scrummage. From what I can tell there were no complaints on either side of the map in either round (unless they were about our crappy server). ADSL plays clean and hard both rounds, giving us some leads, but never really allowing us to rest too easily.

Sponge came really close to forfeiting tonight when we only had 6 players at 8:45 EST! FOR SHAME SPONGE! IT'S SCRUMMAGE, DAMNIT!

With this win, nLv moves up to 2a (i think??). So... vgg 3a, and we'll see you all again in a few weeks once we get our asses handed to us in 2a :D

An exceptional map, and an exceptional matchup. Thanks for a fun, clean time ADSL, and GG!

Final Score: 330-224 nLv!
